Am I doing something wrong?
I’m noticing that when I have individual nanite static meshes, I get very little overdraw with our hexagon pillars.
But when I convert them to an ISM it appears they no longer block each other and cause overdraw. I thought ISMs no longer changed graphics performance, since Nanite rendered by material and geometry; just a good way to save level footprint by reducing actors. But this is a huge increase in overdraw.
Weird. I just tested this and I am not having this issue in 5.5.1.
Did anything else in the material, or anywhere change?
Thanks for the reply. The materials instances did have a difference, but it’s temperamental/not consistent.
Looking into it it may have something to do with Nanite tessellation, and if it’s enabled it reduces overdraw.
With these larger triangles, there’s a lot of overdraw, but with the tiny triangles caused from material tessellation, we’re not seeing overdraw (sometimes…)
Will post back if we find something concrete.
