Hi, I’ve been struggling with this for almost a year. Working with Ue4 is a breeze, really happy with the results and it has sped up my workflow incredibly, coming from Maya/Arnold/Vray.
However, i simply CANNOT get an fbx to export from Maya and import into Ue4. I have tried literally about 200 times over a one year period and there is always something that goes wrong. It’s just not dependable. Alembics work fine but currently I need a basic object animated that is covered in fur, so i need to use niagra groom.
I have an object with basic bones (its not a biped). I export from fbx… the character imports correctly but the animation is 90 degrees off. I import the same thing again and the animation has no movement. I finally get the animation to import, then i export the groom as an alembic and it is flipped and on the wrong axis. It’s impossible to attach the groom because the axis is off.
Every time i do a project with Ue4 the creative part is a breeze but the exporting and importing always puts me in a really stressful position not knowing how long it’s going to take. Surely there must be a way to do this?
Does anyone have any tips? I have looked at a gazillion you tube clips and of course the unreal docs, they all seem to have something slightly different to say on the fbx export settings.
