Material (Paragon Assets) starting point

Hi All,

I have question regarding the Material setup of the Paragon character (Crunch)
If I take this material and change the textures in the material instance to my own design
will this work as shown in the JPG? Or do I need to tweak things in the Mastermaterial (Parent) as well?

The Material has tons of parameters and I would like to use this as starting point.
Is this good idea? If I can findout how each texture/channel work I can reload my adjusted texture.
