Masking a volumetric particle material by texture

Hi everyone. I’m hoping someone might have some insights into an idea I have…

I have a particle system spawning volumetric fog particles. In the material I am using a world aligned checkerboard to mask the fog and the effect is basically what I am after, these vertical “beams” of volumetric fog. However, rather than have the effect be perfectly vertical as it is in the photo, I want to be able to define the angle that the checkerboard mask gets projected through the fog… say at a 45 degree angle or better yet, the angle of my particle emitter. Anyone have any ideas?
