LOD best method

Ok so best is subjective, we have highest visible quality and also time which for an indie is often a high priority.

My modelling skills are somewhat outdated and I’m very grateful the tris count has increased over the years as that used to be a major drawback for me. How we have to consider LoD more in this world of high res gaming.

I’ve seen ue4 has an auto lod feature which would save a lot of time over manually reducing each models count, there’s simplygon and decimator too. How do they all stack up? Any recommendations?

UE4 auto lod generation is really good. Just use it. It’s free and easy to use.

UE4 method is pretty good for environment stuff and even grass patches were looking nice after reduction
Have not tried it with characters though so can’t say anything on that part

It does not work for skeletal meshes at all.
