Line trace overlap issue

So im confused as to why the first example works but the second does not. They both overlap the capsule and mesh but it only fire’s an overlap when I connect it directly to the players location. that is the only difference. Any idea’s?

The trace in your second example has a length of zero, the start and end point need to be different, and the ‘half size’ just ‘puffs’ out the trace.

Ideally, you want to start at the socket and end in a logical place forward from the socket.
