LightPropagationVolumes = Future Realtime GI Feature?

Found a number of LPV settings in Post-Process Volume features. Having used Cryengine before, I am extremely curious about this one (though it sure is different there). Does this mean we will have some sort sort of 3D-grid-like real-time GI in the future?
Right now all the settings seem to have no effect and there isn’t a single word about it in the docs. Or am I misunderstanding something?
