It it just me or is something going on with preview 5? Because it all started after I installed that. All the important settings are the same, so nothing have changed there. Usually preview light bake took around 5 minutes. Now it wont even get to 1% in 5 minutes.
Hi Fanzypantz,
I’ve not personally noticed any real differences like this.
Have you used this project with a previous build that you are now testing on 4.7 p5 when you notice these slow downs?
Also, if that’s the case, has anything changed or been added to your scene that would contribute to the light build times?
What type of scene is it that you’re building light for? (ie. large world with foliage or in-doors)
As a comparison, if you open one of the template maps and add a few meshes in 4.6 and do the same with a 4.7 project, are you noticing any difference in build times?
As always when using lightmass, make sure you do the following:
- Include a lightmass importance volume in your scene
- If you’re using foliage, do not use a high LM resolution
- do not use high LM values on all your assets, as this will add to build times
What do you consider to be a high LM value for large props like the floor of this scene in the living room; Currently I have it on 2k to make the shadows not so pixelated.
2k would be a high LM resolution. If you’re using high values like that for a lot of your objects in your scene I would expect the light build to take a while, compared to lower LM values. If it’s just a mesh or two that won’t be as bad.
