Licensing Clarification for Testing UE 5.6 Metahuman Features

I’m currently trying to use Unreal Engine 5.3 for ArchViz-type projects, but the Metahuman features in UE 5.6 really amaze me. I’m planning to purchase UE 5.6 soon and would like to clarify some licensing details before moving forward.

From what I understand, UE 5.3 can be used commercially without upfront fees or subscription, with a 5% royalty only if the product’s gross revenue exceeds $1 million USD.

Before purchasing UE 5.6, I want to confirm:

  1. Is it correct that UE 5.3 can be used commercially under those terms?
  2. For UE 5.4 and later, including 5.6, a $1,850/year subscription fee applies to organizations with over $1 million annual gross revenue. Is this fee only required when actively using those versions for commercial development?
  3. Can I test and evaluate UE 5.6 (especially Metahuman) on a company laptop without triggering the subscription fee, as long as it’s not used for commercial release?

Thanks very much for your help. I want to make sure I’m fully compliant before buying.
