[License] Need more info for my NGO

Hey guys ! How are you ?

I’m part of an International Non-Profit/NGO and we want to develop tools / games and other cool stuff with the Unreal Engine (we hesitate with Unity but I’ll not throw this debate here haha).

My boss asks me more about the license model of the Unreal Engine and, to anwser him, I have a few questions (I don’t know if it’s the good sub-forum for this) :

  1. If we develop free games / tools, even with a lot of members (across a lot of countries) who’ll work on it, do we have to pay any royalties ?
  2. Do the non-commercial games have a limit for multiplayer and/or users, for dissemination.
  3. Can we give our games to our partners, in order to enhance the global dissemination, if they stay free (of course) without royalties ?
    • For commercial games, do you know if EPIC have special treatment for Non-Profit/NGO ? I ask them with a mail through the support form but they have redirected me here ^^

Thanks in advance ! :stuck_out_tongue:

1–if you haven’t sold the game/product then there’s no royalties owed
2–there’s no limits like that, the source is available for customization so you can expand it to support whatever you need
3–you can give it to someone else to distribute, it doesn’t matter if they continue to give it for free or not, if they sell it then they would pay royalties.

I don’t know what special treatment you would expect, if you are looking for some funding you can submit your project for Unreal Dev Grants: Epic MegaGrants | Apply For Funding to Enhance the UE Open Source Community - Unreal Engine

Heeey ! Thanks for the quick responses ^^
It convinced my boss ! Now I must make a board game in 2-3 months without any knowledges on UE 4 haha ^^
