Launching the Editor starts compiling 10.000 shaders on MacBook Pro

I haven’t used Unreal in 2-3 months until today and it begins compiling 10.000 shaders without any project open. Even creating a blank project requires this as well.
Are these the underlying shaders like the sky sphere, that have to be rendered as a baseline before any work can continue? Maybe the engine content? If so, can this be disabled and rendered along the way as we add in more things if we need them?
