Launcher not starting on OS X after update

I am running on OSX 10.9.4. I just opened Unreal Engine launcher and it updated. Upon completion the application closed. Now whenever I try to run it, nothing happens. The app won’t even appear as running. I checked console logs and I get this on each attempt (blank lines added because line breaks weren’t displaying):

Could you please try opening terminal and do this:

cd /Applications/Unreal\ Engine.app/Contents/MacOS
./UnrealEngineLauncher-Mac-Shipping

Hopefully this will output some helpful info. Thanks.

Permission denied. Looks like execute permissions weren’t setup, only read & write.

I did chmod +x and tried again:

2014-09-03 13:43:55.300 UnrealEngineLauncher-Mac-Shipping[12189:507] launch path not accessible

Now the icon appears in my dock, but nothing else.

No idea what went wrong :frowning: Maybe you could try downloading a new dmg and reinstalling?

Downloaded a new dmg, trashed the old app, and copied over the new one. I’m still getting the same error.

I updated my macbook pro and it worked fine, just my mac pro is having this issue.

I’m afraid I don’t know what’s wrong :frowning: For what it’s worth, you can run the editor directly by launching UE4Editor.app from /Users/Shared/UnrealEngine/4.4/Engine/Binaries/Mac.

Here are some things to try:

  • Go to /Applications in Finder, select Unreal Engine.app and press Cmd+I to show Info window, then see what Sharing & Permissions say.
  • Try installing Unreal Engine.app from dmg to some place other than /Applications, for example your desktop, and run it from there
  • Temporarily rename /Users/Shared/UnrealEngine and /Users//Library/Application Support/Epic folders to something else, so that Unreal Engine app thinks it’s a fresh install

Let me know if any of this provided any new info. Thanks.

Hi Hexerei,

Are you still having trouble with the Launcher? Were you able to try any of Michael’s suggestions above? Let us know if this is still an issue for you, please, and we can look into it further if we need to. Thanks!

Hey Hexerei,

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I am marking this post resolved for tracking purposes. Please let us know if you are still having trouble with the Launcher and we can continue investigating. Thanks!
