Landscape puddles not returning the correct physics surface type

Hey wondering if anyone can help me
I have a landscape with three materials

  • mud
  • stones
  • puddles

the puddles do not return the correct physics material or surface type but the others do.
the only difference is that the puddles are painted with a no weight blend
the puddles will always display the surface type of the material under it.

I have the surfaces set up in the physics section.

do no weight blends hold the physics material properly?
