KH/FF7R style combat

What would one need to look into when trying to recreate the sort of homing attacks Kingdom Hearts/FF7 Remake uses? It seems to be a targeted action, that when close it homes in on the target directing the player and attack towards them.

I would imagine it would be a lot of get location, speed and constant resets for those in a targeting system. There seems to be a homing missile node/thing in UE4 that most people aren’t fond of. Would that be worth looking into? Anyone seen any assets that use this?

Spitballing: Input event> get target > get player character > set rotation location speed> this is what I’m lost on, how would you begin the anim montage while forcing the player character towards the target>play montage
