I haven’t instaled Unreal Engine, because I would like to ask you: Is it really hard to learn the basics?
as most things in life: You won´t really know until you try yourself!
Be brave! it is not so hard and you are more capable than you think!
it all depends on what your looking to make, your aptitude for the work, and your background. for example when i started i had zero game dev experience, no artistic skill or experience, and minimal experience programming. now i can make models in a 3d modeling software, script almost anything i can think of, and create complex systems and basic games. i also am experienced enough now that i can help solve other peoples issues. the thing ive noticed is that theres some concepts that can be hard to get your head around but once you understand it you feel like how could someone not get this.
so take things slow, learn one small thing at a time, and dont be to ambitious. the way i learned was to watch tutorials on all kinds of topics then once ive done the tutorial id try to tweak what i scripted or made and make it a bit different. youd be amazed how versatile things are once you start to understand them. for example by starting with a blueprint for opening a door, i modified it slightly and made a game about dodging asteroids as they move from one side of the screen to the other.
id advise starting with the tutorials made by Epic since they are thorough and easy to start with, they are however a bit older at this point so some features have changed or the way things look is a bit different. let us know what your looking to make (level design, gameplay mechanics, full game, etc) and we can better direct you.
these links are where i started out learning.
