Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain code to extend real-time game engine.
  • Assist in development of rapid prototypes, as well as delivery of high-quality projects for both internal brands and external partners.
  • Work with an agile and multi-disciplinary team of artists, designers, and programmers to design, prototype, implement new gameplay assets and features.
  • Act as technical liaison between real-time development, pre-rendered VFX teams, as well as R&D and ADG.
  • Assess tech and developmental risks. Propose solutions to overcome identified risks.
  • Assist in specification, ensure that design and implementation of experience meets runtime and performance budgeting requirements.
  • Help to improve development pipeline, support the technical artists and level designers via plug-in and tool development.
  • When necessary, collaborate with leads in development of estimates and schedules
  • Actively participate in the QA process to identify, triage and fix bugs
  • Write polished, optimized and documented code

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s and or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • 4+ years of game development experience as an engine/graphics programmer.
  • Extensive experience working with and extending Unreal 4 or 3
  • AAA game development experience for PC or game consoles
  • Extensive experience with the C++ programming language, strong skills in C# & Python
  • Solid understanding of algorithms, physics and math.
  • Strong familiarity with OOD principles
  • Extensive experience with graphics APIs: DirectX, OpenGL, etc.
  • Extensive experience using and programming real-time shaders: Cg, HLSL, GLSL
  • Experience with game audio libraries: Miles, FMOD, Wwise, etc.
  • Strong understanding of 3D modeling, texturing and animation.
  • An appreciation for - and strong desire to create - unbelievable games

Desired:

  • Unity, Crytek, Frostbite or other game engine development experience.
  • Previous experience - and/or strong desire to be working - with VR or AR hardware and SDKs
  • Experience in assembly code, development of low level systems like streaming
  • Software-based rendering experience (Arnold,V-Ray, Renderman, Maxwell, etc.)

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement solutions for gameplay mechanics, AI, player controls, animation, physics, and UI.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team of artists and engineers in a fast-paced, iterative development environment.

  • Write polished, optimized, and documented code with an eye towards re-usability for multiple games.

  • Collaborate with project design and technical staff in a fast-paced, iterative development environment.
  • Conspire frequently with Gameplay Programmer(s) on the optimal design, build, and scripting of levels for real-time experiences
  • Follow design reference and interpret/optimize for experience
  • Proactively identify and adapt executed designs to deal with issues before anyone notices because you test, and test again.
  • Lead and participate in rapid prototyping to test feasibility of concepts.
  • Collaborate in development of task lists, estimates, schedules, milestones and overall project goals as necessary

Requirements

Required:

  • Minimum 4 years experience, working in a level design capacity, integrating assets and designing, building, and populating levels on shipped titles.
  • Deep understanding of interactive level design process: level flow, pace, engagement, structure, environment, storytelling, etc.
  • Extensive experience with UE & Blueprints (or Kismet) scripting, building levels/mods
  • Strong artistic ability, confidence to visualize entire levels and detail with minimal concept art and direction.
  • Collaborative, team-player attitude: open and receptive to new ideas, constructive criticism, direction and changes.
  • Ability to switch between a wide range of styles. Interest and capacity to work with proprietary toolsets.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Collaborate with dev team to advance the state of real-time rendered immersive experiences, striving for highest possible visual fidelity while ensuring optimal performance.
  • Standardize and improve development processes for production of assets, materials, shaders, LODs, asset streaming, collisions, and interactions.
  • Partner with engineering team to understand, define and manage project technical requirements and project asset production.
  • Assist artists and designers via tool development, and in concept testing of new ideas, and building of rapid prototypes
  • Look/dev passes of fog, lighting, post-processes and other VFX for scene / level. Actively participate in optimizations, identify, triage, and fix bugs as required.

Requirements

Required Skills / Experience:

  • 5+ years experience as a technical artist - or equivalent capacity - in 3D game development Strong art skills with experience and deep understanding of modeling, texturing, animation, & lighting for games.
  • Maya: in-depth knowledge, experience with the API (Python or C++), strong scripting skills in Python/PyMel.
  • Unreal: extensive experience working with UE scripting and workflows: physically-based rendering, materials & real-time lighting
  • Shaders: in-depth knowledge of real-time shader implementations, limitations of shaders in VR, strong understanding of PBR pipelines, and subsurface shaders
  • Materials: experienced in the development, authoring & organization of efficient materials via the UE4 material editor

Desired Skills / Experience:

  • Passion for playing and making games, experience or interest in VR and AR VFX production / pipeline experience
  • Proficient with profiling tools in the examination & diagnosis of performance issues
