How to replace static meshes with skeletal mesh actor / animation sequence

I scattered hundreds of objects using a mograph cloner in cinema 4D to serve as placeholder for animated characters in unreal.
I imported the c4d file (melange) so I have a cube at each position. I could easily select all of them and replace them with another static mesh but not with any other actor.
Maybe there is a workaround with duplicating the character, parenting it to the static mesh and reset its position. But how to do it without need to place each animated character one by one?
