HELP: Gap between Paper2D sprite and shadow in 3D

I’ve been attempting to replicate the paper mario/octopath traveller style, but while using the Paper2d sprites in 3D, the shadows cast have a consistent gap between itself and the object (shown below).


The object is not floating, and I’ve tried increasing the light map resolution. I also got this issue ealier while I was using surface material on a plane.

I’m not sure where to go from here , so any help is welcome.
