Google VR / Cardboard - Textures not showing up (4.13)

I’ve been testing Unreal 4.13 for Android Google VR.
I’m now at test number 10 with no starter content, one lowpoly mesh with one 2048 x 2048 base color texture, still the texture is not showing up on the device (Note 5).
Any suggestions?
I’ve tried all sorts of variations and I’ve not seen a single texture show up after depolyment in all tests with different meshes and texture sources.
