Does this just use bone break? If so it doesn’t seem very useful. You still have to make chopped up versions of the character mesh.

Yes, it’s management and all other features. Have to quote comment section, really:

• For the body part to be detached and simulated, mesh preparations should be done (all steps from the tutorial).
• For any human model, if body part mesh isn’t provided, it will just disappear hidden by the blood splatter, and on its place broken bones and wound will appear anyway.

For example without external 3D software, just replace default blood splatter by ParticleSystem_BloodSplatter_Dismemberment from the video. The limb/head/body will be replaced by broken bones and this swap will be nicely hidden with effect of destruction by flying pieces of meat.

Therefore mesh preparations aren’t necessary.
