Foliage in blueprint

We are creating a quite different application with unreal, and we have the need for creating maps as a blueprints. We are now working on making the map more “alive” and need grass and vegetation. Using the foliage tool would be excellent, but from what we understand it is not possible to use the tool within a blueprint, only within a scene. Is there any way to solve this?

An idea is to create a blueprint containing a chunk of manually placed grass meshes, and then place chunks around the map (since placing all of them manually would take way too long), but we feel there should be a better way to do this.

Look into Instanced Static Mesh Component. You can create a blueprint with such component and then procedurally place instances of a mesh from a blueprint.
