This Comic Shader pack includes 3 different materials for stylization in Unreal Engine. The first is the Comic shader. This material brings together a variety of features into a single material including static mesh outlines, variable scratch textures for hand drawn ink effects and cross hatching, rim lighting, color banding, textured specular hilites, with support for original texture maps for alebedo and normals. The second material is an example of a static mesh based outline, which leverages the Overlay material slot. This material also calculates the distance from the object to the camera to vary the outline thickness. The third and final material in this pack is a glitchy styled material which leverages flipbook animation, translucency, and refraction to get a wide range of animated effects. This material is also intended for the Overlay Material Slot.
Hi, tried to install this into one of my projects but i’m getting an error (error code: md-0011-0), just a heads up. Looks awesome though and i’m eager to try it!
Thanks for reaching out. I’ll follow up on this. Cheers.

Nice, thanks for the quick fix!
Hi Micheal, so it did allow me to install it into my 5.6 project, but I can’t seem to see it anywhere within the project? Should it be appearing as a folder inside the content folder? Or would it be located somewhere else? Or accessed in some other way?
Awesome! Once you’ve installed it, go into your Plugins under the Edit Menu, and type the word “Comic” into the filter. The plugin just needs to be turned on. Restart and your project should be ready!
If you look in the Engine Plugins folder, there is a folder names ComicShaders_2.0_Content. Just typing ComicShaders in the Content Browser Filter will reveal all of it’s contents. From there you can double click on the ComicShaderSample level to explore these 3 shaders. Also, the ComicShaders folder within the Plugin has the main shaders. I do recommend creating a material instance, and copying the parameters from the example material instance to get a head start.
Ah of course plugin! Thanks!
Hi Michael, sorry to keep bothering you, but it doesn’t seem to be appearing in my plugins, i installed it in my project fine (even tried to install it in another project, but nothing comes up searching for “comic” in the plugins search bar
Try selecting ALL Plugins above.
still not there, hmm reinstalled the plugin again and still not there for some reason. Damnit this plugin looks so cool, i want to try it haha
So I’m trying to use this shader on Grux and I’m trying to figure out how to applu the shader as an overlay. The base color is all I can get and I tried disabling the base color and nothing is working. What may I be missing?
It looks like you filtered with the word cartoon instead of comic
