No info on hardware (RAM, GPU, CPU) given. You could try updating your gpu driver and/or windows.
Valley of the Ancients loads just fine on my machine:

Windows 10 20H2 64 Bit
Intel Core i7-6700K
NVIDIA RTX 2080 Ti (Driver: 466.47)
32 GB DDR4 RAM

Windows 10 1809
Intel Xeon Gold 6134 3.2 GHz
192 GB RAM
Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti 411.63

It crashed because some application as used same address access for GPU. From my test’s enabling forward render or enabling RTX hardware as unexpected crashes.

Thanks KradMoonRa - I just installed the Nvidia Game Ready driver v.466.47
and the project opened successfully. Whew!
