Easier way to compile project plugins?

I am trying to develop gameplay plugins for my projects, but compiling them is a huge chore right now. At the moment I am following the steps at this AnswerHub answer, but this is a very tedious and frustrating process. How to manually build plugins? - UE4 AnswerHub (I have to read through plain-text logs to find compile errors!)

Is there any way I can build my plugin code from inside Visual Studio? Running a rebuild appears to ignore my plugin code completely, even though the plugins appear in the solution. (These are project plugins, just living in the Plugins folder of my project.)

I am using Unreal 4.12.5 (the latest right now) and Visual Studio 2015 Update 2.
