I am scanning the tops and bottoms of an object. The reason I can’t use the normal depth map way is because the mesh is actually missing parts of the information, so needed parts would be masked out. Could I manually make a few masks for say, a quarter of the images and it make a difference?
Hi James, in this cas it is better to do the masks for all used images.
I know it’s better but is it a necessity?
It depends how it was captured. If there is some neutral background without any objects then you don’t need to use masks. But if there is background with some features and you are able to see some kind of support where your object was standing, then you will need to mask out those areas.
There is a tutorial how to create masks automatically in RealityCapture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxsdbzBwWLE&t=25s
Yes I cannot use this method as parts of my image are being missed off in the preview.
I mean do you need to have a mask for each individual image. Will it still use it if you don’t have one for every image?
If there is mask on the image, the mask will be applied just for that image. If the masked object is visible from another images, then it will be modelled (but not from the masked image).
So as I wrote, it depends how the images are captured. But theoretically it is not needed to have masks on all images.
Thank you
