Distance Constraints vs. *.obj export (to Maya)

Hi guys,

I have a simple crate/box type object and a trusted pack of OCB Cigarette Papers on Photos, creating distance constraints using the artwork on the OCB papers to register the scene with, e.g. the artwork gives me 4 distance constraints, two 3.5 cm and two
with 6.5 cm in a regular shape.

I update the scene and check the values for the constraints, getting very close, like let´s say 6.497 actual value for a distance constraint.

But when I then export an *.obj and import to Maya (in my case 2016.5 Ext2) I don´t get reasonable scale with the import.

Using Maya´s measurement tools and having Maya set to defaults (e.g. cm) I end up scaling the imported *.obj to something
around 7.294 ish to get close to a 1:1 realworld scale in cm.

That kind of f++ks up the accuracy I´m hoping for.

I tried the common inch/cm conversion errors that can sneak into an import/export, like correcting for a wrong 1/2.54 multiplication, 1-(1/2.54), etc but the values I get from trial and error with that don´t get close to that “7.294”.

It seems the *.obj is simply exported with the initial alignment scale RC had come to, the distance constraints not taking effect
and rescaling/updating the scene?

Especially since “roughly 7.294” is not a common value across different projects.

I use the latest RC version.

Help?

Uhhh,

it seems it´s my fault.

I´ve now re-triggered a Reconstruction in Preview mode and re-exported to Maya. Now the size is correct.

Seems I had created that other mesh prior to the alignment update and therefor got the wrong scale.

The only thing I have to correct for now with the Preview Mesh exported - with the scene updated based on the constraints-
is for Y up in Maya, e.g. a 90° rotation when the mesh comes in. Easy enough…

Sorry for the confusion. Problem sat in front of computer…

Cheers,

tim
