Did I break my water?

My water does not reflect any light other than my sun (directional light). I have a cave setting where I need water to reflect a flashlight, which it does not do at all. Even just a little bit from far away at a shallow angle would be enough for the sake of immersion.

Any ideas how to make this happen?

(Using ue5 water plugin)

Try to import a light in the cave to see if the light is reflected in the water. It could be due to how the light is setup on your player?

Try changing between the static, Stationary and Movable options for the light.

If I place a point light above the water, you can see a faint reflection of it in all three movable modes. However, the flashlight on my player is still not reflecting at least in terms of light reflecting at a shallow angle. Just goes straight through the water. Here’s what the point light did:

Wow that is so strange…

Do you have a post process volume to modify the exposure?

No post process to speak of but I do have my directional lights turned off while inside the cave. (The water is a lake inside of a cave.)

Are you by chance on the lower settings of scalability?

The scalability settings are on epic. Very surprised it’s this difficult to have a flashlight beam reflect on the water
