Data smith mesh exploding with materls

So I’m fairly new to Unreal Engine so please forgive me if something is said incorrectly.

Im using Sktechup to create my models and exporting them using Datasmith. I have no problem getting them into unreal and applying materials.

the problem I’m having is that when I try to mess with the tesselation for a material I added to my mesh it literally causes the static mesh object to explode at the seams. I can’t seem to find any information on this so I’m posting this for some help.
