Choosing how you want to play

I’ve been working on a survival horror game and the level design is coming along nicely but the gameplay elements are giving me trouble.
Trying to find what works best with the story is tricky. Should it focus on melee combat? Puzzles? Quicktime events? etc.
So I had the idea why not give the player a choice. One path leads down a story with more emphasis on combat another with focus on puzzles
and another with quicktime events. Letting the player choose what they want. Each branch giving a different playthrough and changes in the story.
