Bright spots on map won't disappear

I’m lighting an indoor scene. There are bright spots on room structure that you can’t see but when a mesh or character moves into the location they are lit up. These areas aren’t in a place where light should be that comes through the windows. I tried moving and removing the lights, that doesn’t work. I tried recompiling the lighting several times, no luck. I rebuilt some of the main features in an empty map file (the room structure and a few pieces of furniture) and the problem goes away. Any idea what this is?
