Blocker - Starting UEFN shows an error, when closed, crashes the engine.

Explain the issue:

When starting UEFN, the following error shows up: “Expecting ShaderCompileWorker Single Jobs 83, got 0 instead! Forgot to build ShaderCompileWorker?”

Closing the dialogue with the error message exits the application, but the UnrealEditorFortnite application process keeps running in the background.

Sometimes, it does not close the application, but shaders stop compiling and assets stop loading, making it impossible to load or create a project.

Evidence: N/A
If replicable, how: Open UEFN. The error message should just appear.

Hi, I can’t reproduce this issue with UEFN, but we have seen this issue in UE before where it sometimes boils down to a corrupted file that’s used to communicate between the editor and the ShaderCompileWorker (SCW) instances. Does this issue reproduce 100% of the time for you or was it an intermittent issue?

Thanks and kind regards
Laura

it happens for me always too

I had this issue, but was able to get past it today when I realized my virus protection was the issue. I use PC Matic and it was blocking that executable from running without giving me the normal option to override. Once I turned that back on, I was able to tell it I trust that executable and it works fine. Maybe it’s at least an avenue to explore for others?
