Blending out of a NP character's AI into a simple play ainmation ...

Hi everyone,

I haven’t researched this yet but I was just wondering about this …

If I have a NP character lets say attacking my 3rd person player character (through nav mesh and AI)
and I want the NP character to suddenly “decide” to run away and just give up the fight …
If I want to do the “run away” as a simple “play animation” on the NP character how to I “switch” or “blend out” of its AI state into a
simple “play animation” of him running away?

Can you “turn AI off and on” on a NP character?
Just throw a switch?
