How is everyone normalizing their materials from marketplace assets? So for example buying a pack of characters or props. Do you just use the materials included? I’ve been replacing all the materials with a master material with more functionality, but it’s a metric ton of work.
My problem is when I do this and go to the asset size viewer it’s still loading in the old materials and considering them for its asset size due to the static meshes still referencing the old materials. Is my only real solution here to just 100% copy these assets and modify them? That’s going to make updating really complicated.
I do not always but pretty often, if material is too expensive then I trim it down, if really simple with basic set of pbr textures then I replace it with one already in the project. And almost always trimming down texture sizes. There’s a lot of assets on the marketplace that look good but have sloppy material and collision optimization.
Makes sense. Maybe I’ve just been overthinking it, lol. It’s taking a lot of time so probably time to stop as it’s not really adding anything. Thank you!
