Beam emitter is shooting out a tangent beam. Why?

I am playing around with the Beam emitter in Cascade. I am emitting from a source and target object and bending the beam. But for some reason the tangent handle of the beam path appears to be also be holding the beam effect (the tangent is the part pointing out from the source and target objects) Any ideas why? I have tried to remove this spikey part but I’ve had no luck.

Can anyone advise how I can remove the tangent spike? See the attached animated .gif to get an idea of what I am talking about.

turn off all attributes on the emitter. Turn them back on one by one. Which one makes it tangent? Otherwise hard to trouble shoot for me w/o the file.

It was the noise attribute. The noise tessellation was too high and by lowering it I was able to remove the spike.
