Animation slightly changed during import

I have a strange problem.
I am importing a simple walk sequence. the sequence looks ok in 3DS but when imported into UE the left legs moves more to the outside during the walk than in 3DS and the right leg does not show this anomaly.

I made a short video that shows the two situations.

Does anybody have an idea what could go wrong here?

I have this in some other animations as well. It’s like Unreal is adding a rotation to some bones on it’s own. I re imported the FBX file into 3DS back again and the error is not there, so it must happen during the import process on the Unreal side. I am considering reporting this as a bug if nobody has an explanation for it
