Aligning particle sprite to character

I’m trying to align a particle sprite for a gun muzzle flash to its character from a top-down perspective. If the character is facing north the sprite works ok because it was authored in that orientation. As soon as the character turns to a different direction the sprite stops working because it stays aligned north. If I choose ‘PSA Velocity’ as my screen alignment, the particle does align but not to the character (it aligns to world coordinates). I’ve tried playing with ‘Use local space’ under the Required module and turning off ‘Always in world space’ in the ‘Acceleration’ module without success.

I there something I’m missing? I’ve looked everywhere but this doesn’t seem like a very common problem (although I would think that most military rts games run into this issue sooner or later…)
