Alembic not animating in sequencer

It doesn’t work even after adding the “running” component/key in the sequencer for the mesh.

I imported the alembic file as animated mesh, which works fine in game mode after enabling “running” but does nothing in the sequencer.

Not sure if this will help you, but when I bring in an alembic file, I drag it into the world. Then in sequencer, I go to frame where I want the alembic cache to start, drag the alembic from world outliner, into sequencer, then go down under it to animation and click the + sign to add it to the sequencer timeline. That makes it play for me.
