Adding Vegetation to a Terrain During Game Play


I am coming from Unity for the specific reason that I am not able to remove TreeInstances from the Terrain without a noticeable drop in performance.

Because of this I am looking for another engine that may offer this solution. I would like to know if what I am trying is possible in Unreal Engine. In short I wish to create a terrain and have the ability to add and remove grass textures and trees to it during game play without noticeable drops in FPS. Is it worth me learning Unreal Engine in order to do what I want to do?
