Showdown VR Demo now available

Do you guys have any plans to optimize it for Gear VR (as mobile VR show case)?

This is pretty spectacular!

A few problems though.

I’m running a DK2 on Win 10 with 2x970’s so there’s no judder whatsoever. (Using 0.7)

On my first playthough the head position was off to the right by quite a bit so I passed through the first soldier and the climax was way off.

I fixed this by opening the Occulus Character blueprint where there’s a command called Reset - I just attached an ‘R’ key to the same thing and it fixed it for the next playthough.

Head positioning is almost non-existant, and it’s reversed! If I lean left to right the camera moves (very slightly) as if it’s gone right to left, same with up or down. I’m going to look at fixing this now, although I’m wondering if they’ve simply inverted the transform of the HMD position to attempt to cancel out all head movement.

Anyway this is great! I really like the clever texturing inside the shop windows and the particle effects look amazing too!

Digging into this more - especially want to fix the head position bit.

Hmm, digging deeper it looks like my tracker’s not working! Duh!

ShowDownVRDemo does not load under 4.9 on the Mac.
The Editor gets to 95% and then hangs every time.
Is it not compatible with the Mac version or is there a plugin in need to install?

I tried it on a Vive (win10+980 card) and it’s silky smooth but there is a weird vertical judder/ripple issue when you move your head up/down, anyone else has this too?

How did you get it to run on the Vive?

I’m running on PC with 24Gb of RAM and it took me a good 20 minutes to load the map. Check your memory consumption and make sure you’re not thrashing your memory by paging it out to disk.

I’m on Windows 10 4.9 and as I’m typing this, mine was 95%… but now it just crashed. Anyways, I don’t know if it’s Mac or something else.

Took ages to open the first time - task manager says it’s using 4.2gig while open in the editor - how much RAM does your MAC have and how much ram do you see it using in your task manager? Is it increasing or staying constant? Glad I got that 16gig RAM many years ago when it was dirt cheap and companies were basically giving it away :smiley:

Mine took ages at 95 percent - isn’t it compiling the shaders at this point? A lot of projects do this. I’ve got a pretty hardcore PC and it took about 10 mins or so to get past 95 percent.

Mine took like 10-15 mins at 95%. Holy **** the sense of 3d is amazing. I’ve watched it over and over like 5 times and still am highly impressed of how it looks & feels. I am running it at 120 fps, I am wondering what kind of performance limitations are for the current hardware and how big can you make these experiences. Also how much work did it involve and how much work would there be to have an similar experience but for like 1-2 hours.

Cool stuff, however for us non-VR folks in the Editor the textures appear low-res and the lighting is too bright. Is there some setting I need to tweak? Cheers.

In my spare time I am looking into getting this to work but it’s a lot of work and it is highly possible that it just will not work. If I do get it working I will make sure to post to the project.

Ahh, sweet! Is it a lot of work due to crunching down polycount / effects / textures ?

Yes it is and there is a lot of work trying to figure out how to reduce draw calls without destroying the quality of the artwork. I have some crazy ideas but need more time to work them out.

I really don´t get it. WHERE can I download/find the demo?

Been trying to download this but mine just gets stuck at “downloading” right at the start and doesn’t go anywhere. Anyone else had this or got any suggestions please?
