Which GPU is Better???

Hey Guys,

I am trying to make a decision in upgrading my gpu. I have a gtx geforce 670 ftw 2gb right now and this card does not support VR. I am looking at a geforce gtx 1060 sc with 6gb because it is in my budget. I have compared these 2 over many websites and I am getting conflicting information as to what card is better. My 670 has 100 more cuda cores than the 1060 but the 1060 clock speeds are higher and it has more ram and its newer. I talked with an nvidia phone rep and they said cuda cores count the most so for me to improve performance i would need to get a 1080, way out of my budget. Is this true? The links are below. Which card is better? Should I just wait for the 1080 to get cheaper?

The 1060 is far superior, it’s similar in power to the 980 and it supports VR just fine.
The number of CUDA cores is just one statistic, it’s not an indicator of overall power (and it’s pretty minor compared to other stats like clock speed and memory speed)

Thank you!

For future reference, you can use this site to compare GPUs: UserBenchmark: Nvidia GTX 1060-6GB vs 670

The benchmarks aren’t using games, but usually come close to the real world difference.

Ah, marketing at its best “oh, no, you need at least our best card on the market!”. Makes you wonder, with that thinking, why the 7 and 9 series even came out, right? I mean, if you need a 1080GTX/Ti to beat a 670, then, all other cards would be less then 670 … interesting.

Anyways, yeah, go 1060. If its in your budget, then go for it. 1060 is a massively popular card, and, performs really really well. I would put it right at, or, around, the 970/980 with a little “boost”.
