Glitchy when exiting UTWaterVolume

I’m using UTWaterVolume for a lake on my map. I’m finding that exiting the water (as the player) is a bit glitchy when the ground is sloped. It seems the underlying code is not designed for sloped gradients.

Any ideas on how I can make the transition from PHYS_SWIMMING to PHYS_WALKING smooth. I’m guessing other people have encountered this issue.
