Find Me ~ Canine Survival

Hello, I’m recruiting people for a project I’m working on, through this post, I’m going to tell you about the actual project, who I’m looking for, and what I bring to the table.

THE PROJECT

The project is called Find Me (might change that later.) The game is based on a true story about my dog Bridger. Bridger was born in a puppy mill (I would REALLY reccomend looking up what those are before replying if you don’t already know), which is where the game starts. He was raised there for 3 - 4 years (we really aren’t 100% certain how old he is exactly.) Then he was rescued and brought to our care. He lived with us for three weeks before he ran away. He was lost for another 3 weeks in the Tillamook National Forest, which is where the last half of the game takes place.

This game is an open world survival, hunger, thirst, fatigue, the works. Now you might be thinking “Oh god, yet ANOTHER open world survival game. What makes this any different?” Playing as a dog makes this game different, dogs have loads of different survival skills from people that will translate beautifully into gameplay. This project is truly a unique opportunity to do something totally different from the typical open world survival game.

WHO I’M LOOKING FOR

Since this is the most ambitious project I’ve embarked on to date, I’m going to need a fairly diverse team, each with about a year of experience.

Modeler

I need a modeler to help me out with the wildlife in this game. There are going to be at least 13 different forms of wildlife in this game. This position holds high priority for me.

Animator

I have absolutely 0 experience with animation, so I will need someone who can handle all the cutscenes, creature movements and basically everything that moves. This is arguably one of the most important positions open.

Blueprint Specialist

I have some experience with blueprints, enough to know about what does and doesn’t work. But there’s going to be a LOT of work to do here, it would be SO nice to split up some of this work with someone else

Pay

Of course this position will be paid. After the project is over, I will consult everyone and we will work out a royalty deal based on how much work each person contributed.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MYSELF

I’ve been working in Unreal for a bit over a year now. I’m mostly a level designer, with some experience in blueprint scripting. In addition to that, I will also be taking care of the projects expenses, recruitment, and writing. I’m not entirely closed off to other people’s ideas though, my ideal partnerships are very honest about what we do and don’t like. If you don’t think one of my ideas is very good, then say so! Art can’t improve without criticism.

MISCELLANEOUS

Some of the work I’ve done thus far:

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

If any of the preceding positions appeal to you, you can comment with your contact info, pm me, or send me an email at

HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU SOON

Any Zombies?

LOL. Just kidding. Sounds interesting… A completely different genre compared to Home? BTW, post congrats on the Home . Was that game green lit on Steam?

Finding Animators has been a challenge for my Team. Have you may find yourself investing in any Game Assets from the Marketplace. You’ll be able to find several forms of wildlife models/animation there, to include a realistic Dog Asset with animation. Is there any Multiplayer support planned? Even if this is geared towards a single player experience, there is a place for multiplayer support and it can enhance player testing 100x.

I would assume as a survival game, you’re using the auto-depletion/replenish mechanics. I won myself a copy of the high-rated Multiplayer Survival Game Template (MSGT) in a Writing Contest. The MSGT is a awesome Blueprints Framework to build a Survival Game on top of. I have no doubt with your skills it would be no problem to swap out the humanoid pawn for a canine pawn.

I personally favor Royalty game dev deals, and as such, I’m very interested in how the game generates revenue. Your monetization model and marketing strategy tells me a great deal about a projects Royalty generation potential. If you have not conducted market analysis yet, I recommend you do. Yes the game is unique, but, you need to know if players want to play as Lost Dog for the game to sell any copies.

Yes actually it was just greenlit  I spent a lot of time with this in it’s conceptual stages, trying to figure out if it was practical, if I could make it fun, and if people would play it. I presented the concept to a lot of people, and most of them said it sounded like something they would play. There currently is no multi-player support planned, but I might change that if I can think of some clever way to do so. Since the game is entirely based on a true story, having multi-player doesn’t seem like it would mesh well with the narrative. But with that being said, I’m not opposed to the idea whatsoever. As for a market analysis, frankly the actual market for survival based games is huge. If even just 5% of the potential market purchases the game, we stand to make an enormous amount of revenue. And that’s just for PC gamers (Since I’m not entirely certain where to get sales information for console games). I hope I have addressed everything you talked about.

You can use Networking to develop the game. We’re leveraging the power of UE4s Multiplayer capability to collaboratively build the world and entities in real-time for our single player games.

The question I ask myself is… is this a game I would pay to play? Maybe, if it educated me and pulled my heart strings for Dogs, especially in regards to Puppy Mills and mistreatment of Canines. I assume that is the first half of the game. If not, the most appealing aspect of Bridger’s story is being overlooked.

Oh no you and I have the exact same thought here. Part of what made this such an appealing project for me, was the opportunity to educate the public about the curelty of puppy mills. In fact, I’ve done several interviews with people from my local animal control centers just to be double certain that I have all of my facts straight. You got it right on the nose, the first half of the game will take place in Bridger’s experience in the puppy mill, and it is a very important part of the story.

What a cool game idea! Best of luck!

Thanks man ^~^
