Hey! I was wondering about rules about flying organs and blood splats were? like general gib/gore.

Is that no go? we got some mechanical characters that we thought were funny to gib and toss in a few organs. But, if it's no go then we can remove it

Just want some response on this before we put any more work into that.

You managed a whole 4 hours???

I know that I am going to sleep right through my alarms now that it's over, being 6 hours late for work is alright... right?

Looks like I'll be doing the post-jam stream review of all the entries, so here's the twitch link:

    https://www.twitch.tv/6ty4

I'll start the stream in ~15 minutes from this post as I finish downloading all the entries. Not doing VR since I don't have any VR hardware, though, fyi. Sorry to the VR people.

You made that sound like you were someone official or on the Epic team. Are you? Or just doing a personal stream, with personal reviews?

Not a whole lot of sleep and kinda sad I had to go solo this time, jams are way more fun when you've got a sleep-deprived group of devs in a conference call taking breaks at 4am to play DayZ or something. I'm proud of what I've come up with and it would be rad to see everyone's games played. Who is supposed to do the official playthrough stream?

Gotta ask... What's up with people not reading instructions and/or not understanding the importance of a DEADLINE with any sort of jam? One of the most crucial core parts, is that you have a specific limited amount of time (on top of other constraints such as theme, toolsets, etc). If I had an extra 6-10 hours to work on an entry, that would have been great! Instead we submitted 1 hour early for fear of missing the deadline because of any unforeseen chaos.

So mad respect to all those cats who stayed on theme and of course to those who submitted on time. To those who submitted way past deadline, and to those who submitted snow themed or basically just submitted your big projects for exposure... Learn how jams work or submit your stuff to the right spot.

It's straight up easy to lose track of time on different timezones and not realise. I submitted a day early thinking I was running out of time. Later on once I worked out vaguely how much time we had left I went back to add instructions, I assumed with heaps of time to go. I just checked and realised my last minor update to the game was 15 minutes after the deadline. We might as well have some flexibility. But a really big countdown-to-finish clock would be nice.

Then yeah, some people straight up missed the deadline entirely. They may be out of the running but they should still be able to share what they made and see it reviewed in playthroughs. They know they were late, it's no big deal.

From the first post, 'the end of April 2nd 12:00 Midnight ET' text is a link to a big online countdown clock. Still not surprised there's confusion over times, though. A world-wide event like this is bound to have some time miscommunications. I second that they know they're late, too. My first UE jam submission was couple hours late, but I wanted to prove to myself I could see it through, even if I busted the deadline.

Does anyone know if UE is planning an official live playthrough of any entries before the 17th?

Did anyone actually submit a big premade project for exposure? Didn't really see anything that looked like that....

    Hey.

Bob here from Intel. Nice to see people are so excited for this I love UE4, and look forward to seeing what y'all create.

On that note, y'all should totally enter your finished entries into the Intel Level Up Contest. Double that chance to win

I also want to say thank you to Alexander for mentioning us in that first post

    Cheers Alex.

Just a heads up for everyone, from the Level Up Contest Rules:
Target System Specifications: Razer Blade Stealth*

    Intel® Core™ i7 processor
    Intel® HD Graphics 620
    16 GB RAM
Integrated graphics pretty much rules out VR entirely. Contest still looks like fun, though.

...and yeah, you're right on VR, though if you can get it running, please do enter, that would definitely score some points for innovation

Really? You'd think I'd know that, that's crazy. I'm afraid I don't know why that is. It's probably too late to change it for this year, but I'll do some investigating and see if I can't get it changed for next year.

Ah whoops, I didn't see that requirement. Why are you guys holding a general game dev competition that ignores 99.99% of the installed video game hardware? All you're doing is ensuring you only get 2D entries.

Ah, but alas... There is plenty one can do without "99.99%" of "video game hardware". Been around long enough to know what the demoscene is (edit hint: look at the 32 byte section and work your way up)? Try getting down on the 64k jams from back in the day. As much as I like having a beast to game on, I believe we've all been spoiled by that large margin of power available, in general. Guaranteed there will be some good entries in the Level Up contest that have low spec requirements. Just sayin'...

Yeah, no denying the VR bit. I know this directly affects you (your jam entry looked pretty sweet), kinda sad to see that honestly... A bit surprised they didn't embrace the current popularity of VR.
