    2017 Marketplace Improvements

    Hi Guys,

We have been receiving tons of amazing feedback and would like to take this opportunity to let you know what is going on with the marketplace and the direction we are currently taking. We have a number of quality of life updates currently in the pipeline, specifically improvements to the flow of purchasing content with a shopping cart, improving the search and better discoverability in the Marketplace as a whole. Right now we're looking to roll these out over the next several months. We'll also be working on improvements to the seller portal during this time and over the course of the year.

As always we want to hear your feedback. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to post them or send a message to Adam or Stephanie.

    Thanks,

    The Marketplace Team

This is fantastic news, any info on when we might see the first batch of updates, and specifically what they offer?

For big features, we'll let you guys know when these dates are getting closer, similar to how we announced the UI change for the sale categories. If the changes are smaller or more in the background of things, we'll make sure we post some release notes of some kind afterwards so you guys are aware a change took place.

hey guys, thanks for this update!

maybe something similar to Envato marketplace categories and date filters, sales figures. This can be really useful:

It would be great to have changelogs. I have plugins and content updating regularly and I never know what has changed.

Also a proper review system instead of just rating - to help people understand what they're actually buying.

    @Adam Davis

I thinking here about the Average Rating of all packs in the MP....My concern is that not all people who buy packs go back to MP to rate it. I say this because I see a large number of packs sold in my seller profile, but very few ratings. Is there no way to make the MP to self-rating the item sold after 3 or 4 weeks, without any rate, based on average rating of the pack?

I think this feature would be very useful for the developers and for the MP. You guys agree with this ?

Submissions have to be reviewed quicker; I know it's a lot of work, but it's the most important fact I see that must be improved...
Overall, It's a great environment already and buyers are very reasonable, nobody has threaten to kill me and my family yet.

    Oh, wishlists, we need them!

I can guess that review speed depends on content complexity. For example, it took almost 2 months to release my Quest System (without any mistakes from my side). And it took only 2 days to be accepted for my upcoming Axes Pack (3d models).

Any plans to improve search function? Currently one has to type exact name of the asset for search to yield any results.

i look forward to get a better marketplace in which to sell my music!
some suggestions for the audio content: you MUST divide the assets into thematic groups, such by mood, genre, style, etc (rock, electronic, ambient, fantasy, sci-fi, etc...)
    the same for SFX!
get inspiration from other marketplaces, but as-is the audio category of the marketplace is a real mess and i just cannot image how one can find what he needs

moreover, you should access the audio preview (soundcloud/youtube) directly from the asset page, without going to external websites.

also, introduce a tag system in the page, so one can give a better description of the work...

Hopefully you guys can add a "favourites" button to the marketplace some time in the near future.

I know this is a feature many people have wanted for a long time.

Could we get an affiliate link/marketing feature. A lot of other 3d content sites have affiliate links you can use on various sites like Facebook, Twitter, your own website etc. Most of them also reward you a commission if you drive traffic. Usually 10-20%of the sale price.

Even if Epic doesn't want to reward traffic that converts to sales, it really helps to know where the traffic is coming from if you're marketing your own work on the marketplace.

I'm genuinely curious so don't take this question the wrong way, how would it function differently from a browser favorite list? As a buyer myself I tend to favorite/bookmark content via my own browser.

Right now you can gift packs by contacting the marketplace support email and giving them the email address associated with the account you want to grant ownership to. But I do agree, manual functionality would be nice as would coupons so we can use alternative methods for discounts as opposed to sales.

My wish as a seller is please speed up the review process a little bit.
It took 45 days for my first plugin to publish on marketplace. And it's now 41 days, my second plugin still in code review stage.

I think some of the buyer interested in email notification at new assets from specific seller (Sure it can be turn on or off)

I would really like to filter to see only the free assets, or sort by price in ascending order.

Filter is a must for marketplace. Also I would like to see any asset updates version tracking similar to Unity store as right now I can't see if there has been any updates to the asset or not, only the compatible unreal engine verison which is not enough.

It's great to see that work is going on to improve the marketplace! Are there any more specific news yet?

My top request wold be a filter system (including price, popularity, etc...). The ratings system is nice, but it would be nice to sort based on the popularity as defined by the number of purchases.

Add the opportunity to earn more than 70% of royalties, selling exclusively on Marketplace.

While that would be nice, I doubt it would happen. 70/30 is the usual split with marketplaces like this. That being said, Epic usually does blaze the way for innovation so who knows? But I wouldn't want them to take too little of a percentage that this becomes an even lower priority for them.

Thanks for the updates! There are a couple of things to the marketplace, or rather, the launcher, that I would like to see added. Now that we have a shopping list, will a "wish list" be coming as well? Also, now that my library is grown significantly, I am starting to see something that should be pretty obvious. Organization. Would it be possible to organize the library the same way as it is organized in the marketplace, with categorical sections?

Would be very helpful to have a list of selected assets for future purchases in "Save for Later".

    * Any form of wishlist functionality would be welcome, this has been requested for years.
    * More informative review/rating system.
    * Item changelog (or at least some info on product update history)
    * Sort by price option

    • More ways for the creators to show they are giving support to the assets; like all items should have a version number and the store could have a "recently updated" section. This way would actually make sense to enhance the items instead of just releasing new ones.
    • The store should have a top reviewed, of each category, for the week, month , year and all time.
    • The reviews should be based on the version (items right now keep the bad scores of old problems). And every score should inform the version based. Like on steam. So if the item have a bad score the creator can actually fix it.
    • 3 days after buying, epic should email the person asking for a review.
    • People don't have the same standards for rating, so a recommend/nope rating is probably more efficient than a 5 stars rating.
    • The store should have a most popular and most sold of each category. (week, month, year, all time)
    • a lot of people only buys on sales, so a wishlist would make sales way more efficient (with email warning about the new price)

I believe one of the concerns for this is the potential for abuse given the exposure of such a section. Sort of how like some sellers had their content perpetually on sale to get into the sales tab.

Then how about a "Popular Items recently updated"? =)

I think overall recently updated is fine, but there probably has to be something put in place to combat potential abuse is all. =P

No, please no. We don't need more spam begging for recommendation.
If I'm satisfied with plugin I always rate it and recommend to people on Twitter/forums

And that's why we should stick to numerical rating. If somebody just selects "Recommend" I don't know if asset "just works, that's it" or "it's awesome plugin/asset, everybody buy it".
The same goes for "nope" rating. I don't know if "asset is **** - plugin doesn't work" or "it doesn't satisfy my specific needs, although it basically works".

The rest of your proposals sounds nice

    I don't think spam is a problem since 2011
What I meant for "people don't have the same standards" is; a "good" for me can be a 3 stars while you see a 3 stars on the store and think it's a terrible rating. In the end, it's a buyable asset or not. You can't see what works and what don't on the rating. you have to read the comments for that.
Not to mention, if there's just a 'like/not' button the number of votes would rise exponentially.

It's time for my feedback about moving away contact e mail from item page - I'm against it. People don't know that there is a contact e mail in profile page, and also as far I know, you have to be logged in to see seller e mail :/ Since this change, I don't recieve any e mail on my support addres, but only through you tube comments, which is not very convinient :/
