    A question about LPV's current state in UE 4.9.

    Hi all,

    Is LPV ready for production or still under development? I saw a few pages about LPV on Epic Wiki and document pages that are out of date. Some parameters or options are gone or changed. Does it mean Epic is actively under developing LPV? Would anyone from Epic explain LPV's roadmap in their future plan? Can we freely use LPV in a real product? Thanks.


    Hi Cherlix,

    LPV is not considered Production-Ready, but this doesn't mean you cannot freely use it in your projects. There were some changes that either went into 4.8 or 4.9 with updates from Lionhead Studios. The changes that have been implemented thus far have been from them since this was something that they originally developed. There may or may not be any additional features coming from Lionhead, but I'm not sure.

    As far as I'm aware there is not any active development on Epic's part with this feature, other than crash and the occasional bug fix for it.

    Also, there are some features that are missing that would really make it a more refined feature, like being able to use it with Spot and Point lights. Currently it can only be used with a Directional Light.

      Thanks, Tim. It makes sense. I see a significant cost on GPU, even on current gen console, and lighting quality decline in indoor environment. I assume it is caused by only injecting directional light. Also the number of drawcall is 5 times more than baking solution because of rendering reflective shadowmaps.
