Has it previously worked? if so look back through your recent changes.

The exception looks as though it's related to de-serialization and loading of a save file. Not sure how the editor loads saves but it may have a corrupt file for your test map?

Make sure you back-up any files you modify!

Can someone suggest how to recover a corrupted save from an editor map? can they be safely deleted?

No it has not worked before. Every file in the mod have been replaced after the re-install of the dev kit. All files is backed-up.

      And what is de-serialization?

Pulling an items from the disk (or RAM) - in your case, it is unable to.
