Unreal Engine w/ Substance Painter - Lot's of TextureSets

Hello, So I used 3ds max to create a mesh and it consists of many separate objects. I have assigned each of them materials so when importing into Substance Painter they have their own Texture Sets and own Material Slot in UE4. The mesh is animated (skeletal mesh) therefore I don't think I can somehow attach the objects together and have them animate without using vertex animation. There are 8 different TextureSets so 8 different materials in Unreal Engine for one mesh (because root bone for rig combines it all together). The question is, Is having lot's of TextureSets or Materials quite performance heavy for one mesh? I do not believe there is a way to attach or merge them together in 3ds max an have them animated still. Thank you!
