    [GAME] Blazing Sails - Multiplayer Pirate Action Game

    Avast, me hearties! We present ye, Blazing Sails. Yarrr!!!

    What be Blazing Sails?

    Blazing Sails be a 3rd person multiplayer pirate action game.
    The core of the game is working together on an awesome pirate ship to win the match. The main game mode is last crew standing but in the future there will be more of em like capture ye olde booty.

    The ship combat isn't complicated and based on a simple task and skill system. Each player is free to do on a ship what their heart desires. Tasks include repairing, firing, reloading cannons, restocking munitions, steering, adjusting the sails, navigating, healing and more! It's up to your team to coordinate well and make sure all tasks are done efficiently. There are also skills that your team can occasionally use to get a small boost. You can also board other ships and cross blades with other pirates, or shoot them in the face with your trusty ol' flintlock.

    There are also different types of vessels which each have unique specifications such as cannons, sail speed, turning speed, defense and even special abilities like harpoons, explosive kegs and more!

    There are also many different maps each with their own unique gameplay mechanics, such as a vulcano map which blasts fireballs across the map, an ice map which will have dangerous crumbling cliffs and ice barriers and freezing cold water, a storm map with high waves and weather effects, a night map, a misty map, a robinson island map with sandbanks and more! You'll visit all the corners of the globe or a one way trip to the locker if you don't keep your wits about.

    There will also be a level and progression system that allows you to unlock cosmetics, weapons and tools because a pirate always needs to look his / her best.

    We have now begun our closed pre-alpha testing and are looking for brave seadogs to join the testing and give feedback.

    Who be working on this?

    Blazing Sails is being developed by 2 people, me (Frederic) and my brother Christophe. We are 2 belgian game developer students who are about to graduate. Blazing sails is an idea we both had for a few years now. So this year we started fiddeling around in Unreal Engine and decided to stop thinking about it and do it. We are both very passionate about making this game as this is the type of game that we want to play ourselves. of course developers are always biased and playing your own product is very diferent from playing other games as we know how everything ticks but we don't care about that, we still want to create a super awesome experience for everyone who plays Blazing Sails, the most important part is making sure everyone has fun which is why emersion and even randomness is important to us, but we also value the fact that the game should be challenging and has a certain degree of difficulty to master.

      Would love to see more. And how would you differentiate from the upcoming Sea of Thieves?

        Hey there thanks for the comment!

        We are fully aware of other pirate games in the making such as Sea of Thieves and Skulls and Bones. However, the pirate game we are making is quite different from Sea of Thieves and Skulls and Bones but also kind of somewhere in between I suppose.

        Blazing Sails is completely focused on the ship combat and everything that includes and more. We want to provide players with a means to always get directly into the fight with their friends, exploring and adventure is not part of the game we are making. We also want to make the ship combat as diverse and in depth as possible. For example there will be many different maps each with their own challenges as well as many types of ships you will be able to choose from to play. The game will also include some Battle Royale elements, like the gathering of resources and possibly also upgrades and the fact that the last team standing wins the match. But more gamemodes will follow later.

        One other thing we will add is a progression system that allows people to showcase their experience in the game through customisation for their character and ship by unlocking more and more awesome stuff on higher levels.

        I guess you can kind of compare our game with Blackwake, but then stylized and much more arcady, or Guns of Icarus. Both these games were the inspiration for making Blazing Sails. We love these types of games, but we felt like both of them are really serious and therefor we want to make a game that captures the same kind of gameplay but is much more arcady and a bit more silly. Kind of like the way Battlefield Heroes was a more silly / casual version of Battlefield.

        In Blazing Sails players will also have to perform many different tasks while aboard a ship, but there is also a skill system for the captain such as a speed boost, armor buff and weapon buff. We also have plans to add many more skills, as well as add some fantasy elements.

        We both love pirate games and have played many of them, they have inspired us to make our own, we are kind of taking all the things we love about them and combining them into something new.

        We hope people will like what we are doing and enjoy the game we creating.

                        Loving the project! How in world did you make those particles spawn when the boat tip hits the ocean? Looks so amazing.

                          It's actually quite simple tbh. :P It's basically a component which is part of the ship which checks on tick with the wave calculations if it's submerged or not, if it is it spawns a particle. A maximum of 1 particle every 1 or 2 seconds can be spawned while the component (bow) is submerged. The size is semi-randomized but also based on how hard the boat hits the ocean (how fast the distance between the bow component and the ocean beneath it changes basically).
