    To LootBox OR No LootBox, that is the question?

    I'm developing a Looter Shooter (see signature) and wanted to monetize with Lootboxes. But it appears the Legal Hammer is coming down on Lootboxes in games Players dont like them, Politicians dont like them, even some Game Developers dont like them. To LootBox OR No LootBox, that is the question?

    It will take a lot less to tick off your potential playerbase if you're not an AAA studio; it's going to be much harder for you to convince gamers to play your game, so the chances are higher for you that loot boxes will be a dealbreaker than for an AAA studio's game.

    Consider alternatives such as:

    - Give players the option to either grind or straight up pay for (as in you are guaranteed the item if you pay) the items they want. Warframe did this.
    - Keep lootboxes to cosmetic items only;
    - If you do lootboxes, allow for an in-game item trading system between players so players can trade their unwanted lootbox loot for stuff they want.

      towderedpoastman,

      Thank you for your insight. We considered Cosmetics only, but decided against Lootboxes all together. We've elected to sale and distribute in-game content directly with from within the game via digital download.

        If they don't like em, why do they buy so much loot boxes?

        I think that's okay, at least players can support devs that way.
