    Just curious

        Do you want my money now for all of those packs ... or should I wait? 8-}

          Small update:

I finally integrated my own versions of several Sphere formulas in order to project 2D Texture information in a 3D world-to-local coordinate system for pole projections no matter mesh orientation or distortion. This was much harder than I thought, but should automatically allow the user to upload a shape of a custom storm as a texture alpha (like the hexagon storm located on Saturn), and it will properly project from world coordinates into local coordinates dependent upon the sphere volume. A bit more testing needs to be done, but it seems to be working. (Now on to integrating some fluid dynamics and we will have the visuals of a polar storm like those seen on Saturn)

That is awesome. I was thinking about creating procedural planets myself but I have trouble with the distortion at the poles. Maybe I should put my planets on hold and see what you are up to. Well, maybe I will do mine for practice and then use the prettier ones.

              Update:

After several attempts at what I thought would be a relatively simple feature, I finally worked out the math and the conversions.
This system uses a fluid map (R,G) a Storm Solid Mask (B) and a Storm Mask (A). These maps are then fed into several calculations and map conversions to properly map to the volume of a sphere's poles and radius 1:1.

                    Quick (and unfortunate) side note:

After beating my head against a wall trying to figure out why shadows were not properly working on translucent surfaces, it seems there is a programming bug in the current 4.6 build dealing with distance shadows? Anyhow, the options are completely disabled. Hopefully they will get them up and running soon. Would be nice to have shadowing on the rings.

Awesome stuff. Are you doing any kind of Atmosphere shading/simulation? If so are you cheating the system a bit or going the full nVidia GPU-Gems route?

I am currently faking the shading/simulation due to performance (However, the pro-kit will take a much more direct approach to properly calculating the atmosphere). The surface of the planet is also fully animated using a band function I created.

                        Shadow Distance Update:
It seems that the Unreal Engine has some very nasty limitations when it comes to changing the maximum shadow rendering distance.
                        See this thread: https://answers.unrealengine.com/que...-distance.html

                        (Bangs face on wall)
Last effort: Going to try to force a manual override within the engine.

If this doesn't work, I am going to write my own shadow projection function for the rings. This will at least give a dynamic solution for planet shadowing (and will be better on performance). Not the best solution, but (A) solution.

I see shadows on the rings

[EDIT] Do rings cast shadows on the planet?

This is great. I need more of that to chew on, just finished with star fx.

These look pretty great. Would you mind sharing your secret solution for the polar distortion? It looks like you put a hexagonal texture on the 'north' pole.
